The Mittens family have been brought up as Free Range Guinea Pigs, dividing their time between a tastefully converted, centrally heated kennel with full en suite facilities and heaps of hay for burrowing, an Ark Run for grazing on the lawn and of course, the Manufactory Cottage. Their night time sleep station comprises a fairy-light bedecked under the kitchen table area complete with raised, sprung beds, cosy fleeces, plenty of fresh salad, cereals and hay. When not eating or sleeping they have the run of the cottage where they alternate between bouts of zooming, ‘wheeking’, scampering, playing games like hide and seek and follow my leader with reading the paper and snoozing quietly next to a toasty radiator or comfy human tickling attendant. Food plays a very important role in the days activities. It may well be instructive to examine the dietary requirements of our Piggies as determined by Mavis - Head of Menu Nibbling. The day starts with a little gentle grazing upon yesterdays leftovers. This helps to stretch those sleepy jaw muscles and prepare for breakfast, which consists of extra tasty fresh salady bits supplemented with cereals. This is followed by brunch in the Manufactory workshop which consists of sweet corn, fresh greens and copious handfuls of fresh grass and dandelion leaves. Numerous topping ups occur regularly throughout the day - lunch, just after lunch, bit between lunch and tea, bit before tea, high tea, lower tea and even lower than that tea. At teatime proper a light snack of salad and fresh grass is provided under the kitchen table. Having adjourned through to the living room an essential snack of fresh grass is made available. All this is of course just in the way of a smackeral in order to prepare for the main meal of the day - supper. This feast comprises all the salad type contents of the fridge plus any remaining fresh grass and a generous topping up of cereals. Oh yes, and then there is the Midnight Feast and then . . .
