Mildred Mittens
Mildred came into my life in the spring of 1998. She soon settled down to life at Spring Cottage and just a few weeks later bore two lovely babies - Winnie and Ted. She looked after them beautifully and Winnie was never far from Mildred’s side for the whole of her life, they were great pals!
We sadly lost Winnie on March 1st 2004 and then in November Mildred, now 6 years old, passed away. We all miss her very much.

Mildred was a very special piggy - indeed, she was the inspiration behind The Manufactory. A beautiful and gentle guinea pig, Mildred taught me all there was to know about looking after your piggy - especially the food situation (lots and often!) and about other important requirements such as sleeping arrangements, outdoor play apparatus and other personal requirements. She played a leading part in welcoming new piggies to The Manufactory, explaining the rules and showing them the best bits of food to nibble! She was always gentle but kept a firm paw and was clearly the undisputed leader of The Gang. It was not long before I noticed her magical qualities. When I photographed her I was struck by just how strongly her personality shone through. I was truly inspired. However, her influence extended well beyond her immediate family circle. Her magic touched the many Manufactory creations and through her website she has brightened the lives of 1000’s.

Mildred and Winnie enjoyed a wonderful life - always cared for, appreciated and loved. It is very difficult when you loose a pet not to feel sad and somewhat cheated - you wonder at the time if having a pet is really worth going through all the pain when they die. Well, I wouldn’t have missed Mildred’s company and friendship for all the world and the joy of her baby, Winnie, so gentle and trusting. Six wonderful years of happy, fun memories to look back on, and then that special, special piggy magic that will live on forever. They were loved so very much and will never be forgotten. Thank you Mildred and Winnie.
